Bible Translations

Not so long ago, only a few versions of the Bible were available. Today the number of Bible translations seems to be exploding. What versions do we find the most helpful and inspiring? Do we prefer old classics, like the King James Version? Or are the ones in contemporary language more engaging and inspiring?
